It is indeed possible to get to the 8th wonder of the world by crossing its bay… when the tide is low of course ! The Mont Saint-Michel will seem bigger and bigger as you walk toward it. It is really impressive !

I testedd the walk from Genêts in Normandy, it is a long walk though it is really worth it ! Genêts is accessible only with car unfortunatly. From there you will walk with a guided tour to Mont Saint-Michel. My walk lasts 6h some are longer, some are shorter, the best is to check online the one that suits you most.

I really liked doing it. The view is amazing but I also liked walking on the sand, crossing water, discovering quick sand… all of this barefoot 😉

Be careful though !

Even if it sounds nice to cross Mont Saint-Michel bay by yourself, we do not recommend you do that at all !!

Indeed, Mont Saint-Michel bay could be very dangerous if you are by yourself. Between quicksand and high tide, accident can happen very fast !

Here in Brittany, there is a saying about the tide. “Tide is so fast that it runs at the speed of a galloping horse”. It’s not true, of course, but the water still reaches the speed of a man walking ! Plus, since the bay is really flat, the sea can surround you very quickly without you noticing it.

How can you cross the bay, then?

You have to hire a guide that will lead you through the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and avoid you the trouble to discover how a quicksand is working ! 

The guide himself is formed to make you cross the bay in a safe way. He is also able to talk about the Mont Saint Michel, its story, and the story of its bay.

At the beginning I was a bit worried to be in a big group as I am more used to do things solo. However it is a big group, you do not really feel it because you are walking through a so big space, like a big desert.
