Off road touristic attraction, the Rotheneuf carved rocks are located at Rotheneuf (of course!), a few kilometers east of Saint-Malo. Only 20minutes from the city center, you will find easly the bus to go there.
The 300 Rotheneuf carved rocks cover a 550m2 area. A local family of fichermen has lived in the 16-17th centuries. Made from 1894 to 1907, abbe Fouéré spent time over last 25 years there ! Locals called him “hermit” as a nickname, having suffered a stroke which left him paralyzed on one side, abbé Fouéré retreated to a life as a hermit in the cliffs of Rothéneuf.
300 pieces carving stones which were inspired by old story from local pirate, legendary adventurers, fisherman, smugglers, and monsters and allegorical scenes. These fascinating stones were carving by hands and you will see faces, animals, monsters, and many strange shapes into the rocks.
If you want to see and feel the real sprit of Brittany, you must go there. ! However, take care when it’s raining because it’s rocky and slippy!!
How to get there: You can get to Rothéneuf by bus (bus number 8 from tourism office 1.30€) to the sculptures and after follow the signs, or you can avoid the traffic by cutting through Parame. The rocks are on the coast. When you find Rue de l’ Abbé Fouré and you will find it.
Where to eat: Next to the Rock there is restaurant and if you walk down to the city side there are nice restaurants as well or you can eat in Saint-Malo.
